Whizz Kidz

Whizz Kidz say:

Whizz-Kidz exist to transform the lives of disabled children by providing the vital mobility equipment, support and life skills they need to reach their full potential. We are the leading provider of paediatric wheelchairs outside of the NHS. Each year, we provide nearly 1,000 disabled children and young people, aged 2-18, with individually tailored mobility equipment and clinical support, including our equipment review and repair and maintenance services.

Whizz-Kidz is extremely grateful for the support that the Purey-Cust Trust has shown us over the years. In 2020, your grant enabled us to help two disabled young people from the City of York with the mobility equipment that is tailored to their very own individual needs.

The right wheelchair at the right time is utterly vital for disabled children to lead a healthy, independent life. It can reduce the risk of secondary health complications and enable a young wheelchair user to experience social life, education and personal development, just like any other child.

18-year-old Emily (name changed in accordance with data protection policy), who received a power assist for her manual wheelchair thanks to the Trust’s 2020 support, said:

“I have independence, it’s as simple as that. My dream is to independently meet my friends for coffee. I want to explore the world, go to university and live as normal a life as possible. Having a wheelchair designed for my needs supports my ability to reach my life goals. It also allows my parents to know that I will have independence and will be able to cope at school, university and everyday life.”

2020 was a year like no other. The support of the Purey-Cust Trust was of particular significance at a time when many of our income sources have been affected by the pandemic. We have also received numerous messages from families telling what a difference their child’s wheelchair has made throughout the various lockdowns. Thank you for making life that bit easier for those families at this difficult time!
