Cruse Bereavement Support

Cruse Bereavement Support say:

Cruse is the leading bereavement charity in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Since 1959, we have been helping people through one of the most painful times in life – with bereavement support, information, education, training and campaigning.

In York and North Yorkshire branch, our team of Bereavement Volunteers are specialist trained to provide professional person-centred bereavement support to people across York, Harrogate and rural North Yorkshire via one-to-one support and group sessions. Our support is free of charge and accessible to bereaved people regardless of background, nature of death and length of time since the bereavement occurred.

Cruse support helps grieving people to navigate complex feelings associated with loss, develop coping strategies, resilience and learn to identify new support networks. In addition, we support hundreds of people each year through our information service with a range of helpful literature, resources and signposting to other relevant local agencies.

We are extremely grateful for the support we have received from The Purey Cust Trust towards our clients living in York. Our three year grant will help us to recruit and train nine new Bereavement Volunteers and upskill our existing volunteers to support children and young people and those bereaved by suicide. It will also help sustain our monthly bereavement support drop-in group in York, providing valuable in-person support and reducing loneliness and social isolation.
