Carecent say:

Carecent is an internal organisation of the York Methodist Circuit. It operates independently of the Methodist Church and its volunteers are drawn from across York.

Our main objectives are to provide food, clothing and toilet/shower facilities, and friendship for homeless and disadvantaged adults in the community.

We provide hot breakfasts 6 days a week, including Bank Holidays. The numbers served each day vary between 40 and 60.

We have around 70 volunteers working in daily teams.

We are located at Central Methodist Church, St Saviourgate York YO1 8NQ. Our email address is admin@carecent.org

At Carecent we have recently completed a major refurbishment of our facilities. The project was expensive and we appealed to local charities including the Purey Cust Trust for financial support. The Purey Cust application form was very comprehensive but with clear instructions and easy to fill in.

In the course of the refurbishment we consulted our “customers” and volunteers on what changes they would like made to our furnishings, as our old equipment was badly worn. They asked that the place should be brighter with small tables they could sit round with table cloths and bright chairs.

The Purey Cust Trust’s grant enabled us to satisfy totally their wishes as shown in the picture and also to decorate the walls and provide two small sofas (also shown). Our whole dining area is now much improved!
Carecent volunteers and customers thank the Purey Cust Trust for our bright and friendly dining area.
