Guidelines & How to Apply
We currently offer two types of grants, our Main Grants programme for charities and charitable organisations and our grants for the benefit of individuals, which must be applied for by a third-party organisation.
Main Grants
Our Main Grants programme is open to charities and charitable organisations working in York and usually provides one-off grants, although longer term funding may be considered. Our Main Grants are available to address health-based issues and to promote the health and well-being of those living in and around the City of York.
Our maximum grant is usually £15,000. If multi-year funding is being sought, we would consider £15k in year one, reducing to 75% in Year 2 and 50% in Year 3.
Grants should aim to prevent, treat or alleviate illness, injury, disability or related conditions, whether physical or related to mental health and well-being.
For example:
- To purchase specific equipment to alleviate the impact of a particular condition
- To provide a particular health related service (E.g. helpline or support group)
- To provide for the education of health professionals (E.g. training of specialist nurses), although such applications would need to be supported by evidence of financial need.
Grant applications may be made for any costs related to delivery of health projects, although salary funding will only be considered where it is directly related to capacity building or where there is a strong volunteer base.
Priorities for funding:
- Local organisations addressing real need in York;
- Maximising return on funding through strong volunteer support
- National or regional charities will only be considered where there is strong evidence of delivery in York
To apply please visit Applications for Organisations.
Community Interest Companies (CICs)
If you are a CIC, in addition to the guidelines above for the Main Grants programme, you will need to comply with the additional requirements for CICs as detailed on the Application form for CICs.
Grants for the Support of Individuals
We offer grants to support individuals, but these are only available via a third-party referee, such as a social worker, health professional, housing provider etc.
Such grants can be applied for to address health-based issues and should aim to prevent, treat or alleviate illness, injury, disability or related conditions, whether physical or related to mental health and well-being.
For example:
- To purchase specific equipment to alleviate the impact of a particular condition
- To access a particular service that will alleviate or improve a particular condition and that is not provided by statutory services
Applications must be submitted by a third-party referrer in every case, who must submit the application on behalf of the individual and in doing so, agree to receive any grant and administrate its expenditure accordingly. We do not make payments to individuals or to suppliers.
To apply for a grant to support an individual please visit Applications for Individuals.
